1000 PAWS WALK FOR SPCA – 10th JULY 2016

The 2015 1000 Paws Walk for SPCA was a major success and was enjoyed by all who attended. We had a significant increase in attendance, with 819 dogs and their owners coming through the gates of Hilton College, a huge leap from 631 dogs in 2014. That makes it an astounding 3276 paws! We were proud to raise an impressive R264 058.66 for the local SPCA branches of uMngeni (Howick), Mooi River and Pietermaritzburg.

This fun outdoor event has become a much-loved highlight of local families and pet-owners. Everyone enjoys the fact that dogs and their owners can stroll at leisure through the lovely grounds of Hilton College, savouring the views and the chance to socialise. There are two walk options, the easy 2km ‘round the sports field’ course and the longer 4km route that overlooks the Albert Falls Dam. The entertainment, stalls, yummy eats and fun activities are also an attraction.

Best of all is the knowledge that by attending, this fun day in the sun significantly supports the three local SPCA branches, which do such an outstanding job of assisting the region’s animals. These societies work towards addressing and preventing cruelty to animals: domestic pets, livestock, wildlife, birds, reptiles, fish – any living creature. Please note that the SPCA receives no funding from national government and all SPCA branches are required to source funding from their own communities to keep their doors open.

Without our wonderful network of donors and sponsors, there would be no 1000 Paws Walk. Whether large or small, corporate or private, every individual who gives helps us to make it happen. As always, we would be most grateful for sponsorship in the form of monetary donations or prizes.

Those sponsoring R5000 or more will be allocated space to erect banners and other promotional material at the event should they so wish.

Companies making monetary donations will receive a Section 18a tax certificate.

Organisations aligning themselves with a reputable charity such as the SPCA (the country’s only animal welfare organisation gazetted into law) are viewed in a favourable light in terms of compliance with Corporate Social Responsibility requirements.

The 1000 Paws Walk will again make use of various media partners including newspapers/magazines

and radio to promote the event. The Sunday Tribune continues to be our main sponsor.

Your contribution will help to make a significant difference in the lives of our region’s animals of all types, shapes and sizes. In addition to aiding animal welfare every day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year, support for the SPCA facilitates outreach and educational programmes that aim to stamp out animal neglect and cruelty in the future.

We hope to hear from you soon – your earliest response will help with planning our event.

With sincere thanks, in anticipation.

We support ONLY the circuses that DO NOT use animals of any kind to entertain the crowds. The use of wild animals in Circus acts is inhumane
