Adoptions

Please see our Adoption Gallery ( DOGS & CATS ) for animals looking for loving new homes. These pictures show just some of the wonderful family pets waiting here for that special person to stop and say “That one!”

By adopting from an SPCA you are sending a message to backyard breeders and irresponsible owners that breeding more puppies and kittens just adds to the problem of too many animals for the number of homes and this oversupply sets the scene for widespread neglect and cruelty.   By adopting one of our precious pets you have become part of the solution.   You will be our hero.

Step by Step Guide to finding your perfect new family member:

  • Pop in to the uMngeni  SPCA in Howick on weekdays between 10 and 4 or on Saturdays between 10 and 12.
  • Chat to our Kennel Manager about the type of animal you think you would like.   Tell her about your family, home and any other pets.
  • Be guided by her selection of animals that she shows you.   She knows them well and will be matching them to you in her mind while you are talking.
  • If you see any that you think you might like, ask to go into their kennel with them or to our quiet corner where you can spend some time getting to know them.
  • Should you find an animal you really fall for you will then need to fill in an application form.
  • Your property will be inspected within a couple of days and you will be notified if the property is satisfactory and if your application has been approved. Please note that there may be post home inspections carried out as well.
  • Once your application has been approved and you have confirmed that you still want to go ahead you will be required to settle up in full and then your new pet will be sterilised, vaccinated, de-wormed and prepared for you to collect as soon as possible.   We really hope that yours will be another match made in heaven.

Lots of people talk to animals.... Not very many listen, though.... That's the problem. ~Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh

We support ONLY the circuses that DO NOT use animals of any kind to entertain the crowds. The use of wild animals in Circus acts is inhumane
