Tess Fernandez (middle), PRO for uMngeni SPCA with her Events Committee members – From left to right – Annie Fleishack (back), Renee Karssing (front), Lynne Norton (back), Denise Slatter, Laura Fleishack, Heather Somerville (back), Edith Powell, Sim Richards, Penny Scott – these volunteers are the core of every event, without them, the catering and service and other duties wouldn’t be possible.

Lynne Norton

Lynne has been on the Events Committee for a couple of years and is always ready and willing to help with all functions and fundraising events for our SPCA. She has a smile as wide as the universe and keeps all of us in good spirits! Lynne and her husband, Mike, are avid travellers and have spent many happy holidays all over Africa exploring our beautiful land.

Denise Slatter

Denise has always been involved with the uMngeni SPCA and this year (2014), we managed to convince Denise to join our Events Committee. Denise is very well organized and has her raffle, street collection and Tree of Love teams in Hilton well sorted before any of us get to it! She loves all animals and is always concerned for their wellbeing. Denise is also very actively involved in our current 1000 Paws Walk for SPCA committee.

Renee Karssing

Renee is an active and proactive member of the Events Committee. She is incredibly passionate about the welfare of all animals and goes above and beyond to assist in fund raising and creating awareness for our Society. Renee is the proud mum of two daughters, that, like her, are extremely compassionate to our four legged friends. She is also a long time teacher at Clifton Preparatory School in Nottingham Road.

Eva Bishop

Eva is a very active member of the Events Committee and has very capably taken on the task of collecting the tins from the various venues around Howick and the Midlands when they are full, and replacing them with new tins. As you can imagine, this is not always an easy task as there are tins in many outlets and keeping a record of where they are, when they need replacing and maintaining them can sometimes be difficult. However, under Eva’s management, this form of fundraising is smoothly handled and we continue to receive a good boost to the coffers, thanks to Eva. In her spare time, Eva and her husband, affectionately known as Bish, love to travel.

Shea Karssing

Shea Karssing is a member of the Events Committee and is not afraid of hard work. She helps with all events, functions and as she has a journalism background, she is instrumental on the media side of events. She adores animals and will help any animal in need.

Laura Fleishack

Laura Fleishack is a new member on the Events Committee and is committed to helping raise funds for animals in need. She has always been an avid animal lover and will be a great asset to the committee.

Pam Hofman

Pam HofmanPam has been actively involved in the SPCA for 6 years. She is a member of the events committee and her and her husband, Anton, are actively and intensely involved in the 1000 Paws Walk for SPCA and she has until, recently, been the Chairwoman of the event. Pam is a dynamic and valued member of our team.

Edith Powell

Edith PowellEdith is a key volunteer who plays a valuable role as Secretary of the Events Committee, Co-Chairperson of the Catering Sub-Committee and also assists in our Library. She is a huge asset to us in every way.

Lots of people talk to animals.... Not very many listen, though.... That's the problem. ~Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh

We support ONLY the circuses that DO NOT use animals of any kind to entertain the crowds. The use of wild animals in Circus acts is inhumane
