And this doesn’t just mean money!  Our shops have an insatiable appetite for goods of every description.   If you are having a spring clean, or getting tired of last season’s wardrobe, maybe you’ve been on a diet and now have your “fat clothes” to get rid of and want to put them to a good cause.

Well, here we are.

If you are thinning out in the garden, we’ll happily accept what you might have thrown away and propagate it, pot it and then sell it. Remember, every bit helps.

Books bring us in a steady income.   Read them and then recycle them through us.  They keep the cats and dogs well fed at the Shelter.

Anything at all you don’t want or need we can turn into funds for our work with animals.

Of course money is great too!   Lots of our supporters have taken our Fireside Jars for their pocket change at home.   It’s amazing how much it adds up to when you bring in a full jar of copper and silver coins.

Don’t forget to pop something into an uMngeni SPCA collection tin at the supermarket or at our annual street collection during International Animal Week , always the first week of October.

Swipe a “My Village” card at no cost to you.  Ask for a form at any Woolworths or download one here.  Participating retail outlets donate a percentage of what you have spent to the charity of your choice – this will be donated to the NSPCA for their work with animals.

Of course we also love getting big fat cheques from time to time!  A donation added to your membership subscription is always most welcome.  Now you also have the option to make donations to us on line by clicking the Donate Now button.

Please note that 40% of all money donated to the below account will be shared with other SPCA’s in South Africa.

We would like you to know that not only will your donation directly benefit the animals in our area but – through a sharing agreement between all SPCAs nationwide – a portion will be used in other, less fortunate areas to benefit animals over a wider area.  We feel sure you will approve of this outreach initiative and wish to thank you most sincerely for supporting our SPCA and the movement generally

Meet the team

Anne Smith - SPCA Plant Lady

Anne SmithAnne has been the driving force behind establishing our Gardeners’ Corner, firstly at Campbell Road and later at our Fundraising Centre in Main Street Howick.   She has been with us through thick and thin, planning, executing and running our highly successful plant nursery.   Anne not only sources plants from nurseries at very special prices, she also goes to Kloof SPCA to fetch loads of plants donated from their nursery and she also pots out slips, cuttings, divisions of huge matted plants and other material that is donated by gardeners.  Whatever else she does with her magic wand to produce the huge stock of fine plants, seedlings, shrubs and trees to sell at competitive prices I wouldn’t know but the measure of her success is in the band of loyal supporters who always look for their garden requirements at the SPCA Centre before they even think of going anywhere else.

Lots of people talk to animals.... Not very many listen, though.... That's the problem. ~Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh

We support ONLY the circuses that DO NOT use animals of any kind to entertain the crowds. The use of wild animals in Circus acts is inhumane
